NY Cop on Trial for Videotaped Beating

setbabiesonfire:

Mercilessly beats an unarmed Iraq war veteran with his baton for “failing to provide identification” (which, if you know your rights, you do not have to do if you’re not under suspicion of committing a crime/you’ve got a warrant out for you - it is the police officers that have to identify themselves & even their badge numbers upon request) and then lies under oath, saying that the man tried fighting with police first, probably not thinking a security camera could prove otherwise. Sad thing? This is extremely common, and that’s the same cookie cutter excuse they always give on stand and if there’s no video recording their actions they almost always get off the hook. Even when it is recorded, some police don’t even get suspended (or if they are, they’re suspended with pay) unless it comes under national scrutiny - even after killing people. To serve & protect or to purge and neglect?

I’m not saying that there aren’t good cops, because there are, but all cops are as human as you and I are and neither you or them should think that they have the ultimate say in something, and don’t be afraid to record them when you’re in a situation where you have to deal with police.

The video/audio-recorder is the police’s worst enemy, check out some other videos that may support that notion here:

They’re all worth watching, but the last one’s very recent, 8 cops beating a man to death and then confiscating the witness’ cell phones to delete the record of the incident. This is the country I live in. It’s a whole new kind of scary when the people that are supposed to be protecting you can kill you and go untried in a court of law.
